A period, typically an academic year, taken by a student as a break between secondary school and higher education.
Example: It is very important with a gap year that the time is used productively.

The process of increasing in physical size.
Example: As for full-time studying, there was considerable growth in the number of women.

In a moderate manner.
Example: However, while the number of women studying both full-time and part-time increased significantly over the periods shown, the number of men studying full-time decreased moderately.

Employed for or occupying only part of the usual working day or week.
Example: With respect to part-time education, the number of men doubled over the period.
relevance

The quality or state of being closely connected or appropriate.
Example: Often, students who have worked before attending university appreciate their courses more, as they are able to see the relevance of what is being taught.

In an important way as to be worthy of attention.
